Disputatio on "Church and Race" with Dr. Voddie Baucham & CrossPolitic

Posted on January 23, 2017

CrossPolitic Show and Podcast will be taking over NSA’s Disputatio to host Pastor Voddie Baucham and Pastor Douglas Wilson for a discussion on Church and Race. The Church has stumbled over this issue for far to long with little progress or resolution. We are all one in Christ Jesus, and yet we have remained racially divided despite Jesus’s death, burial, and resurrection. Why has racial disunity festered so long in the Church? Why has the Church made little progress in bringing resolution on this issue? How should pastors teach on this topic? This discussion, Lord willing, will bring some biblical clarity and direction to the discussion of church and race.

Dr. Baucham’s bio:

Voddie’s journey to Christ and the gospel ministry was anything but usual. He was born in Los Angeles, California, and raised by a single mother. He did not hear the gospel until his freshman year in college. It was there that He came to faith in Christ. As a student-athlete at Rice University, Voddie responded to God’s call on his life and entered the gospel ministry. As a result, he left Rice University his senior year to pursue theological training at Houston Baptist University. He graduated from H.B.U. with a B.A. in Christianity and Sociology. From there he earned a Master’s degree from Southwestern Seminary, and a Doctorate from Southeastern Seminary, and has done additional Post-graduate study at the University of Oxford, England.

Dr. Baucham has authored numerous books, magazine articles, and essays for academic journals, and he currently holds the position of Dean of the Seminary at African Christian University (ACU) in Lusaka, Zambia. He, his faithful wife, Bridget, and their seven youngest children made the bold move from the heart of Texas to the heart of Africa in August, 2015.

On a personal note, Voddie is also an accomplished martial artist. He took up Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in 2012 as an avenue of self defense training, personal fitness and outreach. However, he began competing and found both a passion and a talent. He has won numerous tournaments and titles, including winning the 2014 Pan American Championship in his division.

Disputatio is the weekly all-college forum of New Saint Andrews College. It meets on Fridays during the academic term at the Nuart Theater at 3:00 on Main Street. It is free and open to the public.
