NSA Honored as One of 50 “All-American Colleges”

What do the University of Chicago , Hillsdale College, Princeton University, and New Saint Andrews College all have in common?

They are among the fifty colleges and universities honored in the Intercollegiate Studies Institute’s (ISI) soon-to-be-released publication of All-American Colleges:  Top Schools for Conservatives, Old-Fashioned Liberals, and People of Faith (1-932236-88-0).  The 416-page guide will be available in stores throughout the country later this month.

“Our national accreditation last year confirmed the quality of our program and put us on the higher education map,” said New Saint Andrews’ President, Dr. Roy Atwood. “Now this national recognition puts us in the company of some of the most highly regarded institutions in the country… and in the living room of thousands of families looking for the kind of unique college education that NSA and the Moscow community provides.”

All-American Colleges provides personal, in-depth profiles of fifty highly recommended schools and programs. At each of these diverse institutions, students who identify themselves as religious believers, conservatives, or old-fashioned liberals will find programs that connect in a special way with the core values of the American founding and the vibrant intellectual traditions of the West—schools and programs that are, in fact, often transformative. Based on extensive interviews with students, faculty, and administrators, the profiles in All-American Colleges extend

ISI’s coverage of contemporary academia to accentuate the positive—while including necessary caveats about the unfortunate aspects of each school. The result is a unique new guide that parents, students, and educators will not want to miss.

College gets high marks from TRACS accreditation team

http://www.nsa.edu/news/newsupdates

New Saint Andrews College received a very positive evaluation report from the Transnational Association of Christian Colleges and Schools (TRACS) site visiting team last week.

"The school meets, and in many areas far exceeds, the TRACS standards for the educational program," the TRACS report concluded. The team examined more than 25 areas of the College's programs, personnel, and operations, but identified only six minor areas involving procedures and policies that needed some additional attention.

The TRACS evaluation team was headed by Dr. Wayne Freeberg, former executive director of the Florida Department of Education's State Board of Independent Colleges and Universities under six different governors. The site visit also included a conference call between Dr. Freeberg, TRACS representative Dr. David Beck, and College President Roy Atwood with Dr. Marilyn Davis, the Idaho State Board of Education's Chief Academic Officer, on Friday afternoon. The positive report puts the College in a very strong position to receive full accreditation at the next meeting of the TRACS Accreditation Commission in November.

Survey: Downtown parking plentiful during biz hours

If having New Saint Andrews College located downtown is eating up all the parking, you wouldn’t know it by looking at a recent parking survey.  The limited-enrollment College’s on-going study of downtown parking showed the Jackson Street Parking Lot being used at only 62.9 percent of capacity, on average.  And at no time did the number of occupied parking spaces exceed 75.5 percent of the lot’s capacity.

“On average, a motorist had 54 parking spaces to choose from in the Jackson Street lot,” explained New Saint Andrews’ Executive Vice President Bob Hieronymus.  Since the beginning of the school year Hieronymus and his staff have counted empty spaces several times a day at random intervals.

“This is particularly timely in light of the Planning and Zoning discussions about schools and the impact they have on the availability of parking, said New Saint Andrews President Roy Atwood, Ph.D.  “We’re quite prepared to talk about parking downtown and welcome the opportunity to do so.  But unreasonable parking conditions shouldn’t be used as yet another means of harassing the College.”

“Your best bet to find a spot in the Jackson Street lot is over near Book People,” added Hieronymus.  The spaces in the bay at the far southern end of the lot were the least used, with only a 43.2 percent usage rate average.  “We think that’s particularly insightful, considering statements that have been made to the contrary.”

There are 147 parking spaces across the seven bays between the Moscow Hotel and the Royal Motor Inn, not including the handicapped-designated spaces.  The survey went unannounced to employees and students at the College.  For more information on the survey, contact Hieronymus at 882-1566.
