National Accreditation Body Defers Decision on New Saint Andrews

MOSCOW, Idaho--The New Saint Andrews community and its supporters have been waiting patiently over the past six months for a decision on the College's bid for national accreditation candidacy. They will have to be patient a bit longer. The American Academy for Liberal Education's board decided "to defer action" on New Saint Andrews' application for preaccreditation candidacy at its November meeting. The AALE board asked the College to provide additional information and clarification in 10 areas covered in the application process. The AALE inquiries ranged from the College's new trust organization to its library and facilities. The College has up to one year to respond to the AALE's request, but the College's application can be reviewed again no earlier than the AALE's May 2002 meeting. The AALE board commended the College for its response to the site team's report and for its quarterly use of oral examinations. The College hosted a site visiting team from the AALE back in April 2001 and submitted its complete application to the Academy earlier in the fall for the board's November meeting. The AALE is a national association of colleges and universities that accredits only undergraduate and graduate liberal arts institutions.

New Saint Andrews Reorganized as a Non-Profit Educational Trust

MOSCOW, Idaho--The New Saint Andrews College Board of Governors and the Christ Church Board of Elders reorganized the College this week as an independent non-profit educational trust. This legal reorganization means that New Saint Andrews is no longer a subordinate ministry of Christ Church, its founding body, but a self-governing sister institution. This action moved the direction and oversight of the College out of the hands of the Christ Church elders and into the hands of the College's new Board of Trustees. The composition of the College's governing board, which includes four Christ Church elders and a pastor from a congregation of the Confederation of Reformed Evangelicals, and the College's foundational doctrinal standards remain unchanged.

The Board of Trustees includes Douglas M. Jones, III, chairman, Dr. Stan Miller, Matt Whitling, Douglas Wilson (all of Christ Church), and David Hatcher (pastor, Eastside Evangelical Fellowship, Bellevue, Washington).

For more information about the College's new trust structure, contact the Dean (nsadean@nsa.edu) or the Board chairman, Douglas M. Jones, III (credenda@moscow.com)
