So What's a Windy? It's not a ball. It's not a dance. It's a Windy. What's a Windy, you wonder? We're still figuring it out. By intention, every one is more unique and a little more "us" than the last. It's more folk than formal, and features dancing, eating, psalm-singing, laughing, our own Dol Baran's Moscow-style folk music, and frequent high-speed polka collisions. Basically, it's one way the saints here party down, and is an expression of our belief that celebration is a crucial part of Christian culture. Limber up before you come. You may be required to duck under the arm of someone half your height, because entire families are highly encouraged to come (that should make those of you under the erroneous impression that the Windy is nothing but a marriage market feel better…). We'll make a point to put some kid-friendly dances toward the beginning of the evening to accommodate those with early bedtimes. Not sure the kiddos (or you) know the dances? Stay tuned for details on a dance practice, where we'll walk you through things. Please don't let missing the practice keep you from the actual Windy, though. The caller usually does a run through newer and trickier dances. |

Dance PracticeFor those who would like to learn the dances for this Windy, or simply brush up on their steps, there will be a dance practice from 9-11 a.m., Monday, August 7, at the Logos School Auditorium. Guidelines for General DeportmentGentlemenThis event requires semi-formal attire. That means, at minimum, dress slacks (no denim), collared shirt and tie. It is your responsibility to see that all the ladies have an opportunity to dance. If a lady declines your offer to dance, be courteous and do not ask why. LadiesAlthough formality and modesty are required, the Windy is more folk than formal. A blouse and skirt are just as appropriate as a dress. Tops should have modest necklines (no strapless or spaghetti straps), well-fitting bodices (not too tight), and the skirts should have mid-calf or longer hemlines. Your top should allow your arms to move freely and modestly in all directions. Fathers should set the ground rules for their daughters in advance regarding any restrictions on particular dances or those with whom she may not dance. |
