Joshua David Appel, M.A.
Fellow of Humanities, 2004-
Mr. Appel is a part-time teaching Fellow, and coordinator of the College's third-year, team-taught, integrated humanities course, Traditio Occidentis. Mr. Appel joined the College faculty in 2004 after receiving his M.A. in Christian Thought at Reformed Theological Seminary in Orlando, FL. He also took graduate courses in philosophy at Gonzaga University, Spokane, WA, in fall 2001. He received his B.A. in Liberal Arts and Culture, Summa Cum Laude, from New Saint Andrews College in May 2001.
At the request of the administration and faculty of the College, Mr. Appel represented the Class of 2001 and presented the student address at the College's Fourth Commencement entitled, "The New Saint Andrews Experience." Mr. Appel’s senior thesis was entitled, “Faith, Theodicy, and the Righteousness of God.”
In addition to his faculty responsibilities, Mr. Appel serves as a pastoral assistant to the Rev. Dr. Peter Leithart at Trinity Reformed Church in Moscow.
Mr. Appel, is the son of John and Betty Appel of Leavenworth, Washington. Both of Mr. Appel’s brothers attended New Saint Andrews College: Daniel, a 2001 New Saint Andrews graduate, studied law at Regent University, Virginia Beach, Virginia; and Justin, a gifted pianist, attended the College for one year before pursuing piano performance studies at Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma, Washington.
Mr. Appel and wife Sara (Ramsey) (B.A., 2004), the College's alumni director and assistant for advancement and development, married in Colorado in June 2004 and now make their home in Moscow.
