Facilities

New Saint Andrews is located in the heart of downtown Moscow at Main Street and Friendship Square. The College occupies the historic Skattaboe Block at 405 South Main Street. The 15,000 square foot facility (with an additional 10,000 square feet of basement) was built between 1893 and 1925, and is on the National Registry of Historic Places. The first floor of the New Saint Andrews building houses Tyndale Library, the Head Librarian's office, two classrooms, the Machen Seminar Room, a faculty office, the Student Commons Room, and the College bookstore. The College's administrative offices, faculty offices, Praetorius Choir Room, and Saint Brigid's Conference Room are located on the second floor overlooking Friendship Square.

The Student Commons Room

The Class of 2004 raised funds and coordinated the remodeling of the Student Commons Room and Machen Seminar Room as its senior gift to the College. A generous gift from a student's family provided the funding for the flooring and new furniture. The Commons Room has slate flooring in the hallways and kitchen area and new carpet and furniture throughout. The kitchen has all new appliances. The Machen Seminar also has new carpet, conference table and chairs. The design of the rooms was developed by Miss Kate Ramsey (B.A. 2004) and the project manager was Mr. John Lewis (B.A. 2004). The project carpenters were Dave Gressard and Gresham Bouma, electrical work was done by Heirloom Electrical's Doug Farris, and the tile and carpet were laid by the Carpet Mill, all of Moscow. Thanks to all for their fine work and generosity.

Augustine and Calvin Classrooms

The College's two large classrooms are located on the first floor. Augustine has a maximum seating capacity of 50 and Calvin seats about 35 students.

The classrooms, Tyndale Library and most of the upstairs administrative offices and classrooms were designed by the Wintz Company's Mark Wintz of Moscow.

The College Bookstore

The Bookstore provides students with their books and materials needed for classes. The Bookstore also offers a range of books, music, supplies, and NSA logo clothes and gifts for students, alumni, and friends of the College. Most of the books and NSA logo items are available through the College's Online Bookstore.

Tyndale Library

Tyndale Library holds the College's excellent liberal arts collection with strengths in literature, history, theology and more. The 60,000 volume collection includes books and periodicals and provides student study space. The library also provides computers for student research and wireless Internet and email service. The library has a modest number of rare documents and manuscripts on regular display and available to students for research with permission. For more about the collection, see the library's web page.

New Saint Andrews Building, Second Floor

The Saint Brigid Conference Room

On the College's second floor, just off the main administrative area, is the Saint Brigid Conference Room, designed for faculty and committee meetings. Faculty are also free to use the room for occasional seminars and special classes. The remodeling, supported by a generous gift from a College family with several alumni and current students, restored the original one-inch oak floors and 12-foot ceilings. The conference room comes complete with a new kitchen sporting granite counters and new appliances. Rachel Jankovich (B.A., 2001) created the interior design for the remodel. Waterman's of Moscow installed the granite counters, Dave Gressard and Gresham Bouma did the carpentry, Doug Farris of Heirloom Electrical the electrical, and McCoy Plumbing the, uh, plumbing. The appliances were purchased from Howard Hughes Appliances, Moscow. Thanks to all who helped restore this lovely conference room.

Administrative and Faculty Offices

The College's main administrative offices and most of its faculty offices are located on the second floor. The College's music room, Praetorius Classroom, is also on the second floor. For the 2004-2005 academic year, the College's 100-plus-member Concert Choir will hold its rehearsals at the Christian Life Center located west of the College's building across Jackson Street (just south of the Moscow-Pullman Daily News offices).

The Nuart Theater

The College's Disputatio sessions convene every Friday afternoon at the Nuart Theater, an historic theater venue right across Main Street from the College's main building. The Nuart Theater is owned by Community Christian Ministries, an independent evangelistic outreach and Christian literature ministry to Moscow and the college community. The College is grateful to Eric Engerbretsen for use of CCM's fine facility and his encouragement of the College's ministry to the community.

Friendship Square

The College is located in the heart of downtown Moscow on the city's Friendship Square. Situated on the south side of the Square, the College community enjoys the lively public space which features a Farmers Market on Saturdays May through October, open air concerts, a small children's playground, a fountain, and park benches. As the main downtown public gathering spot, Friendship Square plays host to various public events, rallies, receptions, and even protests (this is a university town, after all). The College reserves the Square occasionally for student events and social gatherings.

The City of Moscow received a $249,000 development grant in 2004 to renovate Friendship Square. Construction on the site should begin sometime in 2005. Check back for updates on the progress of the Square's "face lift."

West of Paris: Fine French Cuisine

In the northeast corner of the first floor of the College building is a high cuisine (it really is extraordinary) French restaurant, West of Paris. Reservations are needed for dinner Friday and Saturday evenings, recommended Tuesday through Thursday. They also serve lunches, 12 noon to 1:30 p.m.

The restaurant is owned and operated by Francis and Donna Foucachon, previously of Lyon France. Francis is a trained French chef and the Foucachon's two sons are attending New Saint Andrews.

For more information about the restaurant, its menu, and more, see the story in our news section. West of Paris also has its own website, so check it out.
